The USGS is the federal entity tasked with developing the national hazard maps that serves as the seismic demand reference for the building codes in the United States (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.asce.org\/asce-7\/\">ASCE 7-16<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dgs.ca.gov\/BSC\/Codes\">2019 California Building Code<\/a>).
