Years of working with earthquake ground motion datasets exposed recurring challenges such as inconsistencies in metadata and inefficient data querying, amongst others, all of which hindered the flow of scientific analysis.
We embarked on an effort to address these challenges and what began as a small collaboration among postdocs and graduate students grew into a vibrant, interdisciplinary team united by a shared goal: to design a robust framework for earthquake ground motion databases, one that honors past progress while enabling future innovation in engineering applications.
This paper reflects countless discussions, critical evaluations, and technical contributions from across the community. We’re excited to share the result and hope it accelerates research, supports hazard analysis, and fuels better engineering decisions
